The World Bank’s program in Timor-Leste began in 1999 when its citizens voted overwhelmingly for independence, which became a reality in May 2002. The first Country Assistance Strategy for Timor-Leste for FY06-08 will help one of Asia’s poorest nations implement its goals of delivering sustainable services to the poor, creating jobs and strengthening governance.
