THINGS YOU NEVER
KNEW ABOUT THE
WORLD BANK IN ALBANIA

The World Bank is helping Albania improve its financial and banking system, and develop its private sector

A thriving private sector requires a sound financial and banking system. To eliminate informal financial schemes, the World Bank and other donors are helping introduce more transparent financial institutions, including microcredit schemes. Village credit funds are being transformed into savings and credit associations serving rural entrepreneurs. An urban microcredit foundation (Besa) has also been set up with branches in
15 cities to increase employment in urban communities.
