The
World Bank is helping Albanians establish a health care system that
is accessible, affordable and efficient. It is also helping reduce
illnesses by improving poor peoples’ access to health care.
For example, 115 national primary health care centers have been
built in the poorest areas o f the country. Also, World Bank financing
helped improve services in three hospitals, and a masterplan has
been completed for the further development of the "Mother Teresa”
University Hospital Center in Tirana. The World Bank is also advising
on health care decentralization.
