FYR Macedonia became a member of the World Bank Group in 1994, shortly after the break-up of the former Yugoslavia. Since then, the World Bank has committed US$650 million to the country and has helped FYR Macedonia overcome a series of economic crises, especially those following the Kosovo crisis in 1999 and the armed conflict in 2001. The World Bank is supporting reforms in education, social protection, health, environment, agriculture, infrastructure, sanitation and public sector management.
