The breakup of Yugoslavia in 1991 and the conflicts that followed resulted in significant challenges for FYR Macedonia. The World Bank has taken the lead in organizing donor support and providing rapid assistance through lending and advice for policy reforms. Through projects supporting local communities, the World Bank is working with the Macedonian government to restore normalcy in areas of conflict.
