Real estate registration and respect for citizens’ rights to own land are important elements of a market economy. The World Bank is helping Moldova develop a system to register urban and rural property. It will help citizens secure credit using property as collateral and pass on their land and homes to their heirs. Some 4 million properties have been registered so far. The legal framework to protect them is also being developed with World Bank assistance.
