Bad roads slow economic activity. Polish consumers spend the equivalent of 16 percent of GDP on vehicle operating costs, with road accidents accounting for another 2 percent of GDP in physical damage, medical charges and lost productivity. The World Bank has financed improvements in Poland’s road network, including repairs to the country’s longest bridge over the Vistula river at Wyszogrod, and several important bypasses.
