The World Bank helped Poland recover from the floods of 1997 which devastated homes and infrastructure over 25 percent of the country’s surface area. In addition to restoring physical damage, the World Bank helped reduce the country’s vulnerability to future disasters by strengthening its capacity to predict and manage floods.
