Accession is a priority for the country and the World Bank is working with other development partners, especially the European Union, to support Slovakia in the EU. Advice and lending are provided for policy reform and institutional development needed for the adoption and implementation of the acquis communautaire (legislation and other obligations that EU members need to put into practice). The Bank is also financing programs in areas such as health, social services, and public sector reform, which form essential elements of Slovakia’s comprehensive efforts to enhance living standards and make the most of EU membership.
