Turkey became a member of the World Bank Group in 1947. As of September 2006, World Bank commitments to Turkey had reached US$18.4 billion. During this time, the World Bank has helped Turkey overcome a series of economic crises and implement reforms in social protection, health, environment, agriculture, infrastructure, sanitation and public sector management. Currently, the World Bank is financing 23 projects and four grants in Turkey. It is targeting its financial and advisory assistance to help Turkey sustain stability and growth for the years ahead.
