The World Bank is supporting Turkey’s efforts to implement agricultural reforms to enhance efficiency. World Bank assistance has helped reduce market-distorting subsidies by close to 75%, thereby helping keep the cost of food to consumers down. Also, a Direct Income Support Program has been established which benefits some 90% of Turkey’s farmers. A wheat and cotton grading system has been developed as a first step towards receipt-based trading.
