The World Bank is helping Uzbekistan establish a health care system that is accessible, affordable and efficient. It is also helping reduce avoidable illnesses by improving poor people’s access to essential health care. For example, a World Bank project has helped improve the quality of primary health care in five regions of Uzbekistan. Close to 300 primary care centers, serving 3.5 million people, have received new equipment. Also, the World Bank is financing
training of medical professionals and advising on health care finance.
